March to the Sea

On Friday, May 25, the Edgartown School will continue its long standing tradition of March to the Sea.  A parade of students, staff, parents and special guests will leave the school at 1pm on its way to Memorial Wharf where those who have sacrificed their lives in American wars and conflicts will be honored in a program of speeches, songs, and poems. The parade returns to the school at 2:30pm.  Parents are welcome to join this wonderful event.

Start Saving!

On Thursdays, the Edgartown School offers a banking program, typically held in the cafeteria. Open up a savings account - from pre-schoolers to parents! A weekly deposit of as little as $1, beginning in Kindergarten, can cover most, if not all, of the costs of school trips (Camp Alton Jones, 7th grade ski trip, Shenandoah, etc..). Try it out!

Kindergarten Registration

Dear Parents;

    Kindergarten registration materials become available at the Edgartown School on March 5 through March 30, 2012.  These materials may be obtained from Paulee Davies, office receptionist.  Her contact is 508-627-3316 ext. 300.  At the time registration materials are picked up from Mrs. Davies, an appointment is made with Nicole Barlett, school nurse on April 3, 4 or 9.  Mrs. Barlett will review these materials with parents during these appointments.  Also at this time, parents are given a date, either June 6 or 8, to tour the school.  Tours are 9-10:30am.  All completed registration materials are due at the appointments on April 3, 4 or 9.

    Kindergarten Parent Orientation is Wednesday, April 25, 7-8pm in the school library.  During this orientation, kindergarten teachers, specials teachers, counselors and administrators meet with parents to go over the details of the kindergarten program.

    Each year, prior to the start of school in September, kindergarten students and their parents are invited to a late afternoon picnic at the school.  This fun event begins the process of developing community among the newest members of the school.

    Parents interested in having their child attend another Island School may apply for school choice to the principal.  School choice requests must be received by June 15, 2012.  Parents are notified as to the status of requests by July 1, 2012.  Parents interested in school choice may contact Mrs. Davies to schedule individual tours, regardless of where they live, after June 8 if desired.
